One of the steps in recovering from Thyroid Cancer is to have what little thyroid tissue remaining in your body "ablated." This means that you go off your thyroid medication for six weeks at the end of which they give you some radioactive iodine which is taken up by the thyroid tissue. This kills the thyroid tissue and, hopefully, any chance that you might have a recurrence of cancer. Unfortunately, the side effects of going off the thyroid medication is that you become a bit loopy. I've been tracking it for about a month now and I figure that in terms of IQ points, I'm down about a quart. I still have another two weeks before the ablation and by that time I know I'll be at rock bottom.
My energy level has also taken a dive. I can physically do the things I was formerly able to do, but I just don't feel like it. My preference is to take advantage of the kindness of everyone around me. I don't disabuse my wife of the notion that I am an invalid when she offers to fetch things for me and do things for me that I could certainly do myself. I'm apathetic, uninteresting, uninterested, slow, dim-witted. If not for the fact that I am gaining new insight into the lives of others, this slow descent into the life of a Democrat would truly be depressing.
